Chris will lead a series of classes for 4 weeks from Oct 25 – Nov 15 from 3-3:45pm and will cover the basics of mindfulness, incorporating techniques such breath awareness, body scan, and other traditional teachings on cultivating wholesome states of being. No prior experience necessary. Just bring an open mind and a commitment to taking care of yourself in these challenging times. Opportunities to ask questions as well.
Here’s the link to join (no registration needed! open to all staff!)
Ongoing Benefits
Affinity groups
LAAC facilitates two monthly affinity groups to better coordinate and support members of our community:
- Legal workers (defined as staff who are not attorneys) who hold marginalized identities and are considering pursuing a career as an attorney.
- Staff involved (in any capacity, formal or informal) in ensuring that their organization centers diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility, and/or social and racial justice in its work.
Reach out to Theo, tser-ramin@laaconline.org, for more info.
Retreats and In-Person Gatherings
Next month, LAAC is hosting a retreat to bring together legal aid advocates who work on policy issues. Participants will workshop new policy ideas for 2025. Registration for this event is now closed, but we plan to host similar in-person convenings in the future! Reach out to Reann, rpacheco@laaconline.org, for more info.
Want more casual opportunities to get to know your legal aid community? LAAC also plans to host more Happy Hours in 2025. Sign up for our newsletter and we’ll loop you in! If you have questions, or just know the perfect spot, contact Katy, kburnett@laaconline.org.
Research
LAAC both compiles research useful to the legal aid community and conducts and publishes original research. We are constantly working to develop and share more resources with our community, including a forthcoming tool that will help legal aid staff easily locate helpful data and statistics. Reach out to Zach, znewman@laaconline.org, for more info.
Job Board
Looking for work in legal aid, or know someone who is? Our member organizations share current opportunities for attorneys, paralegals, and other staff on our job board.
