The Organization
LACBA Counsel for Justice (CFJ) is a nonprofit legal aid organization dedicated to bridging the justice gap in Los Angeles. As the charitable arm of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, CFJ mobilizes volunteer attorneys to provide free legal services to underserved communities, addressing issues such as domestic violence, immigration, veterans’ legal needs, and housing. In 2023, CFJ volunteers contributed over 4,100 hours to assist nearly 10,000 individuals. With more than 50 years of pro bono leadership—and celebrating the 50th anniversary of its immigration project in 2025—CFJ continues to create a more just LA. The Role
The Pro Bono Director will be instrumental in advancing CFJ’s mission by leading and enhancing its pro bono programs. The Pro Bono Director will design innovative strategies to recruit, train, and support volunteers, ensuring they are empowered to make a meaningful impact on the lives of underserved individuals and communities. As a leader within CFJ, this role requires a dynamic, collaborative professional who is passionate about pro bono service and dedicated to fostering equity and opportunity through access to justice.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies and practices to ensure consistent, high-quality services from pro bono volunteers.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including law firms, community organizations, and corporate partners.
- Design and execute strategies to recruit, train, and retain volunteer attorneys and law students.
- Develop, implement, and manage CFJ’s Summer Legal Fellows Program.
- Monitor and evaluate program impact, adjusting as needed to improve effectiveness and reach.
- Collaborate with the development team to identify grant opportunities and provide necessary program data for applications and reports.
Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active California Bar membership.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in legal services, pro bono management, or a related field.
- Prior experience with volunteer recruitment, management, and program development.
- Proven leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Compensation and Benefits
This is an exempt position with a salary range of: $115,000–$132,000, commensurate with experience. CFJ offers a generous benefits package. Note: All CFJ positions are subject to continued funding.
